About Brainoxa Image Tools
What this is
Brainoxa Image Tools is a set of free tools for everyday image jobs: compressing a photo to a size, converting between PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC, resizing, cropping, turning images into a PDF, sizing photos and signatures for exam forms, making passport photo sheets, and reading or removing the metadata inside a file. It is made by Brainoxa.
The tools run in your browser. Your images are opened, changed and saved by code on your own device, and they are not sent to a server. That is the main design decision, and the rest of the site follows from it.
Why it works this way
Most online image tools upload your file, process it somewhere else and send it back. That is slow on a weak connection and it means a copy of your photo sits on someone else's machine. Doing the work locally avoids both. It also means the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.
The trade-off is that your device does the work. A very large image or a long AVIF encode can take a few seconds, and a phone with little memory handles fewer files at once than a laptop.
What it is built on
- WebAssembly builds of well-known codecs, through the jSquash packages: MozJPEG, libwebp, libavif, OxiPNG and a Lanczos resizer.
- libheif for reading HEIC photos.
- fflate for ZIP files and Comlink for the background workers.
- Astro and Preact for the pages and the tool interface.
What it does not do
It is not a photo editor. There are no filters, layers or retouching. The free limit is 10 images a day per browser, and there are no accounts. A paid option is not available yet. The page mentions it as coming soon and collects nothing.
The size and speed numbers on each page were measured when the site was built, on synthetic test images made for that purpose. Your files will give different results, and each result line shows the real numbers for your file.
