Why the PDF is smaller than the PNGs

PDF pages here are stored as JPG. A photo saved as PNG shrinks a lot on the way in, and screenshots shrink a little or stay about the same. The three test PNGs, 3.89 MB together, made a 854 KB PDF at Best quality and 265 KB with Smaller PDF.

Best quality saves each page at JPG quality 92, which keeps text in screenshots crisp. Smaller PDF uses quality 75 and limits pages to 2000 pixels on the long side.

Best quality keeps a JPEG exactly as it is, minus its metadata, unless it needs turning upright. Other formats become JPEG at quality 92, with white behind transparent areas. Smaller PDF saves each page as JPEG at quality 75 and limits the longest side to 2000 pixels. Writing the PDF itself took about 7 ms; the rest is image encoding. Screenshots

For screenshots you will read on screen, choose Same as image for the page size. Each page is then exactly the size of its screenshot, without white borders. For printing, A4 or Letter with a small margin is the safer choice.

If small text looks soft, stay on Best quality. Compare on a card shows the page at 100% before you build the PDF.

Transparent images

PDF pages here have a white background, so transparent areas of a PNG print as white. If you need a different colour behind a logo or an illustration, convert it first with PNG to JPG and pick the background colour there.

Putting the pages in order

  1. Drop all the PNG files. They appear as cards in the order you added them.
  2. Use Up and Down on each card until the order is right. The page number shows on each card.
  3. Choose the page size, orientation and margin at the top.
  4. Press Download PDF in the bar at the bottom.

Privacy

The PDF is assembled in your browser. Your screenshots never leave the device, which matters when they show account numbers, messages or private work. The file has no author or software name inside it.

Questions

Will the text in my screenshots stay sharp?

At Best quality, yes for normal viewing. Smaller PDF trades some sharpness for size.

Can I mix PNG and JPG pages?

Yes. Any image the site reads can be a page.

Can I change the order after adding more images?

Yes. New images join the end, and Up and Down move any page.
