How the presets behave

The table sends one 2000 x 1333 photo through the seven size presets with Fill and crop. Blog (1200 x 675) and Open Graph (1200 x 630) come out at exactly the target size, because the photo is bigger than both. Instagram portrait, Pinterest and Story ask for more height than the photo has, which is 1333 pixels.

The tool does not enlarge by default, so it keeps the shape of the preset and uses the biggest size it can reach: 1066 x 1333, 889 x 1333 and 750 x 1333. If you need the exact pixels, turn on Allow enlarging in Advanced settings, under Dimensions. Expect a softer picture when you do.

Resizing never enlarges unless you allow it. When the photo is too small for a preset, the tool keeps the preset's shape and uses the largest size it can reach, which is why some outputs are below target. Three ways to fit a different shape

 • Fit inside shrinks the whole image until it fits the box. One side may end up smaller than the box.
 • Fill and crop covers the box exactly and trims the overflow from the centre. Use the crop tool first if you want to choose what stays.
 • Pad fits the whole image and fills the rest of the box with the background colour.

Percent and longest side

Switch Resize by to Percent to scale everything by the same amount, or to Longest side to cap the biggest dimension and keep the shape. This page starts with a longest side of 1200 pixels, which suits most blog and social images. Aspect ratio lock keeps width and height in step when you type exact pixels with Fit inside.

Your own presets

Type a size, then choose Save as a preset. It appears in the list next to the built-in ones and stays in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere. Delete a preset from the same place.

Sharpness and file size

Shrinking uses Lanczos resampling, a sharp filter that keeps edges crisp. Output keeps the original format unless you change it. A smaller picture also makes a smaller file: in the table the Blog size came out at 70 KB as JPEG at quality 82. To land under a limit as well, add a size target in Advanced settings, under File size or use the 100 KB page.

What the presets are for

 • Blog, 1200 x 675: article headers and featured images in a 16:9 shape.
 • Open Graph, 1200 x 630: the preview image shown when a link is shared.
 • YouTube, 1280 x 720: video thumbnails.
 • Instagram square, 1080 x 1080, and portrait, 1080 x 1350: feed posts.
 • Pinterest, 1000 x 1500: tall pins in a 2:3 shape.
 • Story, 1080 x 1920: full-screen vertical stories.

Questions

Why is my result smaller than the size I typed?

The image is too small to reach it without enlarging, so the tool stops at the biggest size it can. Turn on Allow enlarging if you want the exact size.

Does resizing change the format?

No. The format stays the same unless you pick another one.

Can I resize many images to the same size?

Yes. Drop them together. The bulk page adds a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in this tab.
